SWE Scholarships (Deadline: February 15)
Click here for SWE's Online Scholarship Application. Scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year have been awarded. The application for sophomores through graduate students is typically available December 1st through February 15th. For freshmen: March 1st through May 15th. UAF Scholarships (Priority Deadline: February 15)
The Office of Admissions and the Registrar awards a limited number of merit, service and retention-based scholarships each year. Priority is given to students who have applied for admission and/or scholarships by February 15. Contact the UAF scholarship coordinator at [email protected] for more information.
UAF University Women's Association Scholarships (Deadline February 15)
The University Women's Association provides scholarships for students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Applications are due by February 15 prior to the academic year for which you are applying, and applications are required annually. You may edit or add to the application any time on or before February 15. UAF students interested in applying for a UWA scholarship should do so through UA Online.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) Selected Professions Fellowship (Deadline: January 10)
These awards are directed toward full-time, female students, who are pursuing degrees in fields where women are under-represented. Examples of such fields would include engineering, math, architecture, some areas of computer science, and many areas of scientific study. Association for Women in Science (Deadline: February 15)
The Women in Science Education Foundation offers scholarships to female students in several categories, including a number of them for high school seniors in the amount of $1,000. One of the most recent additions to their catalogue of awards is the Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award for college sophomores or juniors majoring in physics or geoscience. Girl Scouts of America
If you have ever been a girl scout, no matter what state you reside in, you may be eligible for one of the many, many scholarships offered by the Girl Scouts of America. Some require reaching a certain level within scouting. Some are school or state specific. If you think you fit into this category, simply go to http://www.girlscouts.org/program/highest_awards/gold_award.asp for an example of what they have to offer, or Google Scholarships, Girl Scouts of America for the many opportunities they offer. You will be amazed by the extensive list of scholarships available.
Google Anita Borg Memorial (Deadline February 6)
This scholarship was created to encourage excellence in female university seniors and graduate students majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related area of study in a technical field. Each scholarship is in the amount of $10,000, but all finalists receive an award of $1,000. In addition, all scholarship recipients and finalists are invited to attend a 3-day retreat at Google featuring social events, networking, workshops, and breakout sessions. The Horizons Scholarship for Women in Defense (Deadline July 15)
If you’ve ever thought about a career related to national security or the defense interests of the United States, there is no better time than now. This scholarship was created in 1988 to encourage young women to enter the field, and to provide resources for their education. The amounts of the awards vary each year. The selection board emphasizes that this is not intended for those majoring in law enforcement or criminal justice, and encourage the study of professions related to science, technology, education, and math. Application and eligibility requirements are specific, including suggestions for other current areas of study. The deadline is July 15. National Society of Black Engineers
This association, established in 1975, is dedicated to educating black women specifically in the field of engineering and science. They provide numerous scholarships each year to qualified students majoring in these areas. Association of State Dam Safety Officials (Deadline March 31)
The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) aims to encourage students in engineering to pursue dam safety as a career option. Scholarships are offered in the range of $5,000 to $10,000. National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals
NOGLSTP scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering,or mathematics (STEM) programs who are either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) or an active ally of the LGBT community. The Susan E. Stutz-McDonald Scholarship is for female students studying environmental engineering at various universities.
